Workshop "Piping and Heave analyses"

November 16, 2005
On December 8, GeoDelft organizes the workshop “Piping and Heave analyses”. Last week the Dutch secretary of state for Public Works presented the "Veiligheid Nederland in Kaart" (VNK) report. This report states the importance of the Piping and Heave phenomena as failure mechanisms for dikes.

The Erosion module for MSeep allows users to perform detailed Piping and Heave analyses. As most consultants are already using the programs MStab and/or MSettle for stability analysis and/or embankment design the step towards MSeep is relatively small. The geometry and parameters from MStab and MSettle input can be used in MSeep, so that users only need concentrate on the modeling aspects for Piping and Heave.

The workshop is free of charges.

Release MSheet Version 7.1

October 11, 2005
The new MSheet Version 7.1 is available on the download area of this website from Monday October 17. This new version supports the new CUR Handbook for Sheet pile wall design, which has been presented during the “Geotechniekdag” on October 11. For a detailed description we refer to the release notes.

In a few weeks the new MSheet Manual will be ready and printed. All users with maintenance and support contract will receive a copy and CD by mail. The manual is already available in digital format. It can be downloaded as PDF.

Users with maintenance and support contract can update their security code through this web-site. For more information on updates, please contact us.

The manual for MSheet has completely been rewritten. It now includes 15 tutorials, describing most program options in practical examples, also providing geotechnical backgrounds. The manual now includes a verification section, describing 39 benchmarks.

We trust that by this new Version we not only support your work process to a larger extend, but also according to the latest design standards. Should you have any questions or suggestions, please let us know. Information on the new CUR handbook is available in Dutch through this link.

Presentation MSheet Version 7

October 5, 2005
During the "Geotechniekdag" on October 11 in the Netherlands, the new MSheet Version 7 will be presented. During the same day, the new CUR handbook on Sheet pile wall design will be presented. This new handbook is fully supported by the new MSheet version. On October 11, the new MSheet version is downloadable from our web-site. Contact persons will receive additional instructions.

The new version comes with a new (360 pages) manual. The manual will be downloadable as PDF on the same day. At this moment the manual is being printed. Within 1 month we expect to send all users with a maintainance and support contract the new version on CD and printed manual. Until than the downloads can be used.

The new manuals contains 16 "Tutorials" that provide a good overview of MSheet's capabilities, illustrated in practical examples. The new CUR design procedure for Sheet Pile Walls is demonstrated in 2 Tutorials.

16th ICSMGE Conference at Osaka

August 15, 2005
The 16th international conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering will be held from 12-16 September in Osaka. Delft GeoSystems will have a booth at the exhibition. Now that a number of programs are suitable for use in international Geo Engineering, this conference is ideal for international display. Delft GeoSystems will display both MStab for slope stability and MSheet for sheet pile design. These programs are now suitable for use with the EuroCode.

We will also exhibit GeoBrain. GeoBrain is a R&D project by GeoDelft that comprises the development of an expert system capable of performing predictions in the field of GeoEngineering. GeoBrain uses expert knowledge stored in databases, Artificial Intelligence, Neuro Networks and Bayesian Belief Networks to make predictions. Several proto-types will be on display. The first commercial uses of GeoBrain have become available in MSheet. The new E-Consult module in MSheet uses information from GeoBrain to evaluate the feasibility of the construction.

1st International Delft GeoSystems course

August 1, 2005
Delft GeoSystems has scheduled their first international course for October 6th. During this course, participants will learn the background needed for 3D modeling of pile groups. This course focuses on the use of MPile, a software program used for the analysis of pile group interaction. MPile works according to the American Petroleum Industry standard (API). Release of MSheet Version 6.2 with E-Consult module

1 July, 2005
The most important improvement in the new version of MSheet is the addition of the E-Consult module. E-Consult stands for electronic consult. Besides performing a design-code check on the stability of a construction it is now possible to get an idea on the feasibility of the construction by using several sources of experience. Read more

Besides this new E-Consult module, Version 6.2 contains a number of improvements. These are described in more detail in the release notes.

Appointing Agents

July 15, 2005
Delft GeoSystems is looking for international agents to sell and support their software. At this moment we are in the process of appointing agents in Singapore and Turkey. We are also in contact with organizations in Japan and China. Ideally agents should have solid backgrounds in both sales and support for geotechnical software. If you are interested in representing us, please send an e-mail providing some credentials to P.brand@delftgeosystems.nl

Delft GeoSystems courses and symposia

May 26, 2005
In 2005 Delft GeoSystems started to increase their number of training courses and symposia. These are organized in close cooperation with the GeoDelft and the Delft GeoAcademy. During the past 6 months well over 150 people have participated in one of 6 courses about Delft GeoSystems software. For an overview of available courses follow this link.

Besides providing courses, GeoDelft finds it important to focus attention on different aspects of Geo-engineering. To do so, we organize symposia addressing these issues and allowing for discussion. These symposia give us the opportunity to interact with the engineering community. Following a symposium, GeoDelft’s scientists and developers address these issues, often resulting in new software options. During a recent symposium on settlement prediction 130 participants shared ideas and experiences. The audience concluded that good and robust prediction models such as the isotache model are very useful, and that combination with automated parameter fits, based on settlement plate measurements, is very desirable. Both are available in MSettle.

New version of MStab released

October, 2004
Version 9.8 of MStab is now available. This new updated version contains 2 new modules:

  • Reliability module
  • Bishop Probabilistic Random Field

With these 2 new modules, MStab has become the first commercial software package to incorporate practical reliability analysis, according to standards such as the Eurocode 7. Reliability analysis shows how variations in strength and water loads affect the factor of safety. Switching between a partial factors concept and a probabilistic analysis is easy. Besides input of the actual parameter distribution, the defaults can also be used for an approximate analysis without additional input. For more information.....
